Repairs, done properly the first time

Every job starts the same way: a proper diagnosis, an honest explanation and a price you agree to before any work happens. Here is what we handle and the faults we see most often in Nairobi homes.

Washing machine repair

Front loaders, top loaders, semi-automatics and washer-dryers. Nairobi's hard water and unstable power supply account for most of the faults we attend, and both are things we can protect against once the machine is working again.

Faults we see most

  • Water not draining, or drum full at the end of a cycle
  • Drum will not spin, or clothes come out soaking
  • Leaking from the door seal or underneath the machine
  • Error codes on the display and cycles stopping midway
  • Loud banging or grinding — usually bearings or a foreign object
  • Door locked shut with the load still inside
  • Machine not powering on at all

What the visit involves

The technician runs a short diagnostic cycle, checks the pump, filter, inlet valve, belt, motor and control board, then shows you what has failed. If it is a blocked filter or drain we clear it on the spot at the minimum charge.

Where a part is needed, you get the price of the part and the labour separately so you can see exactly what you are paying for. We finish with a full test cycle and check the machine is level so the fault does not simply repeat.

Fridge & freezer repair

Domestic fridges, chest freezers, side-by-sides and small commercial display units. A fridge that is losing temperature is urgent, so these calls go to the front of the queue.

Faults we see most

  • Fridge running but not cooling, or cooling only in the freezer
  • Everything freezing solid, including the salad drawer
  • Compressor running constantly and never cutting off
  • Ice building up at the back panel
  • Water pooling under the drawers or on the kitchen floor
  • Gas leak — the classic symptom is a warm fridge and a silent compressor
  • Door seal perished, letting warm air in

What the visit involves

We check the thermostat, fan, defrost system, door seal and gas pressure before touching the sealed system, because a surprising number of "gas leaks" turn out to be a blocked defrost drain or a tired seal.

Where a regas is genuinely needed we pressure-test first, repair the leak, then charge with the correct refrigerant for your model and leave the unit running until it holds temperature in front of you.

Cooker, oven & hob repair

Gas, electric and dual-fuel cookers, built-in ovens and standalone hobs. Gas work is handled carefully and tested for leaks before we leave — this is not a category to cut corners in.

Faults we see most

  • Burners not lighting or the ignition clicking without a flame
  • Weak or yellow flame, or a burner that keeps going out
  • Oven heating unevenly, burning one side of everything
  • Oven not heating at all — element or thermostat
  • Temperature dial no longer matching the actual heat
  • Oven door not closing squarely, or a cracked door glass
  • Electric hob plate dead on one ring

What the visit involves

We test each burner and element, verify the thermostat against a probe thermometer, and inspect the ignition leads and gas connections. Faulty elements, thermocouples and igniters are usually replaced on the spot.

Every gas job ends with a leak test on all connections and a short bake test so you can see the oven holding its set temperature.

TV repair & installation

LED, LCD, OLED and smart TVs. Board-level repair where it is worth doing, and an honest "replace it" where it is not — panel damage on a large screen very rarely makes financial sense to repair.

Faults we see most

  • Sound but no picture, or a very dim screen (backlight)
  • TV clicking, or a standby light that will not start up
  • Vertical or horizontal lines across the display
  • No sound at all, or distorted audio
  • HDMI ports no longer detecting devices
  • Smart features frozen or apps refusing to load
  • Power surge damage after a blackout

What the visit involves

Most TV faults live on the power board or the backlight strips, both of which are repairable at sensible cost. We diagnose in your home, quote before removing anything, and only take a set to the workshop when board-level rework is required.

We also do wall mounting and cable tidying, including getting the bracket height right for the room rather than just wherever the studs happen to be.

Microwave & dishwasher repair

The two appliances people put up with for longest before calling — usually because the fault seems small. Both are quick jobs when caught early.

Microwaves

  • Runs but does not heat the food
  • Sparking inside the cavity
  • Turntable not rotating
  • Control panel unresponsive or buttons dead
  • Door catch broken so the oven will not start

Microwave repairs are only worth doing on mid-range and built-in units; for a cheap countertop model we will tell you honestly if replacement is the smarter call.

Dishwashers

  • Not filling with water, or not draining at the end
  • Dishes coming out still dirty or still wet
  • Leaking from the door or the base
  • Cycle stopping partway with an error light
  • Bad smell from a blocked filter or spray arm

We service the filter, spray arms and inlet as part of every dishwasher visit, since scale from hard water causes most of these faults in the first place.

Air conditioner & tumble dryer repair

Cooling and drying equipment both fail gradually rather than all at once, so a service at the first sign of weakness usually costs far less than a repair later.

Air conditioners

  • Blowing air but not cooling the room
  • Water dripping from the indoor unit
  • Ice forming on the pipework
  • Loud outdoor unit or a fan that will not start
  • Routine servicing, filter cleaning and gas top-up

We cover split units, window units and portables, and we handle installation and relocation as well as repair.

Tumble dryers & water dispensers

  • Dryer tumbling but not heating
  • Drum not turning — usually a belt
  • Clothes taking two or three cycles to dry
  • Dispenser not cooling or not heating
  • Dispenser leaking or tasting stale — full sanitising service

Not sure which service you need?

Describe the noise, the smell or the error code. We have almost certainly seen it before and can tell you on the phone whether it is a small job or a big one.
